NYRR holding youth jamboree

If your kid has any inclination toward running, hopping or jumping – and what kid doesn’t – then get them down to the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Youth Jamboree.

The organization’s inaugural 2011 event takes off at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory in Washington Heights on Saturday, March 26.

The event, free for all, comprises friendly and fun competition in a variety of track and field events including runs, relays, long jump and shot-put. Complimentary t-shirts and ribbons will be awarded to all participants and a health fair will be open to all attendees.

Kids and families can show up the day of the event and register – beginning at 7:45 a.m. – or they can register online at www.nyrrf.org until Friday, March 18. For more details on the event, email the coordinators at jamboree@nyrr.org or call them at 646-758-9675.

            Races begin at 9 a.m. for kids 5 to 10 years old; 1 p.m. for kids 10 to 15 years old; and 12:30 p.m. for the 4-year-old 55-meter dash.

Best known for organizing the ING New York City Marathon, NYRR began providing youth programs to all city boroughs in 1998. Their running-based programs promote physical fitness in children, as well as character development and personal achievement in underserved communities.
