The Harlem Globetrotters are known for their acrobatic and gravity-defying moves on the court – entertaining fans across the country and downright embarrassing their opponents.
Now, the magicians of basketball have added a Queens kid to their repertoire.
Zeus Stewart learned the art of hoops on the playground courts of Springfield Gardens High School. Those skills now translate to one of the most entertaining spectacles in sports.
“I’ve learned a lot everywhere I’ve been, but especially while playing basketball in Queens,” said Stewart, who is a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Long Island. “Come out and play hard with no complaints and you’ll make it – that’s what I learned.”
Stewart returned to NYIT in February to show off some of his moves on the court of his college days. It brought back a lot of memories for Stewart and also made him appreciate his opportunity with the Globetrotters that much more. He gets to travel the world playing a sport he loves, but the real reward is the seeing the fans’ reactions.
“The ability to make people happy by playing a game – no matter what’s happening in their life, they can come watch us for two hours and really enjoy themselves,” he said. “The fact that I can do this for a living is unfathomable.”
