Ackerman to holds Service Academies info night

Representative Gary Ackerman announced that he will be sponsoring his U.S. Service Academy Information Night for Queens and Nassau County high school students who are looking to apply to U.S. service academies.

The academies are four-year post-secondary facilities that unify officer training for the armed forces and education.

It will take place at Bayside High School, located at 32-24 Corporal Kennedy Street in Bayside, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27.

The academies include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut.

Representatives from Ackerman’s staff and the academies will take address requirements, outline how to apply and take questions.

Ackerman will be nominating students to compete with others across the country for entry into these competitive institutions. Those accepted will be competing for spots in academy classes beginning in summer 2012. – Jano Tantongco
