City reveals ‘One-Click Hearings’

Forget having to wait in long lines to pay or dispute a ticket, now you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg introduced the new online program “One-Click Hearings” which will allow New Yorkers to go through the process in a more efficient manner.

“By offering a completely paperless way to dispute and process parking and other violations, we are helping our customers save time and money,” said Bloomberg.

This online service is available for parking and red light camera tickets, as well as tickets concerning littering and clean-up, recycling, health and safety and even pets.

The new web site feature allows users to request a web hearing, upload evidence in a matter of minutes and then receive a ruling by email in just a few weeks, instead of a few months, Bloomberg explained.

“That means residents and small business owners who want to dispute these kinds of tickets will no longer have to take time out of the workday to appear before a judge,” said Bloomberg. “Instead, they can contest the tickets online whenever it’s convenient for them – whether that’s noon on a Sunday, or midnight on a Thursday.”

The city’s new program is just one of a series of steps to make it easier to access critical information and services on your terms and on your schedule with a user-friendly format that is keeping up with technology, said Bloomberg.

Besides the efficiencies to New Yorkers, the program will also reduce paperwork for clerical personnel and increase productivity of administrative law judges, who will be able to make use of the down time between live hearings to review digital cases.

“While we can’t stop issuing tickets when people break the law, we can reduce the headaches that come with paying and disputing them,” said Bloomberg.
