CAMBRIA HEIGHTS — An off-duty Rikers Island corrections officer pulled a screaming tot from the wreckage of a car accident Sunday before returning to rescue the rest of the family, according to the New York Post.
Russell Simplice, 36, was raking leaves outside his house at about 1:30 p.m. when he heard the screams of the 2-year-old and rushed to the scene, the Post said.
He pulled the little girl out of the car, which was turned on its side near 225th Street and 118th Avenue, the Post said.
The family, which included both parents and two young boys, were all taken to a nearby hospital and no serious injuries were reported, the Post said.
