Officer assaulted by driver in Astoria: Brown

ASTORIA — An Astoria man was arrested on three charges after he allegedly hit and injured a police officer with his vehicle, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Kyriakos Louras, 23, of Astoria Boulevard blocked traffic by double-parking his Ford Explorer SUV in front of 28-43 Steinway St. at about 12:35 p.m. April 6, according to Brown.

Police Officer Daniel Dulitz approached the vehicle, at which time Louras allegedly turned the steering wheel and accelerated rapidly, striking Dulitz in the process, according to Brown.

The vehicle struck Daniel Dulitz’s right wrist and Louras allegedly tried to drive away but was stopped by traffic, after which he was apprehended by Dulitz, Brown said.

Dulitz was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for a contusion in his right wrist, which was also red and swollen, Brown said.
