Whitestoner goes from Wall St. to coaching

By Connor Adams Sheets

Helen Anagnostos calls herself a “reformed Wall Streeter.”

The Whitestone MBA spent 20 years in finance before the economy tanked and she lost her job two years ago — six days before her last radiation treatment for breast cancer, which she has successfully beaten.

She enjoyed her work in the business world, but after a year of looking for a new position, she decided to draw on her personal experience with health and illness and shift fields.

So for the past year she has been building for herself a new career as a holistic health and lifestyle coach.

“I started a business coaching people to regain their energy, lose weight, become healthy and be beautiful from the inside out,” she said.

Anagnostos puts her clients on a regimen that leads to overall wellness, she said, improving their lives and health.

“We start with a nutrition plan, then we move into an exercise plan that works for them, and then we move into other areas of their life, such as spirituality, relationships and career and improve these aspects of their lives so they can be more fulfilled and be happy and healthy,” she said.

Anagnostos said she also feels more fulfilled in her new role, as she is able to see her work leading people to better themselves. Her brush with cancer spurred her to make healthy choices in her own life, and she sees this new period of her life as an opportunity to help others do the same.

Often the work is largely mental, as she finds that many of the people on her burgeoning list of clients who come to her home office for coaching want to be healthy — they have just let that aspect of their life take a back seat to other modern cares.

“People in their daily lives forget to pay attention to themselves, they just go to work and come home and don’t care for themselves,” she said. “They become overweight, they become unhealthy and they feel as if they aren’t living their lives fully. So I help them turn their lives around.”

Since making the decision to transition into her new specialty, Anagnostos has become certified as a health coach, a personal trainer and a makeup artist, giving her a range of credentials that allows her to offer a comprehensive health improvement service.
