Kiwanis Club Flag Day Parade flies high

Citizens joined with elected officials and marched in the 42nd annual Sunnyside Kiwanis Club Flag Day Parade on Saturday, June 11.

Officially celebrated on June 14, Flag Day celebrates the history and adoption of the stars and stripes as the flag of America – and the parade along Greenpoint Avenue from 41st to 48th Street gave revelers a chance to proudly wave the colors.

Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer was on hand at the culminating ceremony at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Joseph Sabba Park. He said that this parade provided a great opportunity for patriotism within the community.

“For more than four decades, Sunnyside has been the proud host of one of the only Flag Day celebrations in the five boroughs,” said the councilmember. “Each year, the Flag Day events bring our community together to celebrate the history of our nation, which continues to be beacon of hope and opportunity around the world.”
