Residents in need of work should race on down to the Aqueduct Racino in South Ozone Park after the company renovating the facility announced the opening of an onsite employment center.
The new employment center officially opened on Monday, June 6 and will be open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nearly 500 local residents turned up for the center’s opening day, which saw applicants clamoring for career opportunities at Resorts World Casino New York.
Individuals looking for work in such fields as entertainment, hospitality, security and food services are encouraged to visit the center and apply for work.
Resorts World New York President Michael Speller said that his company’s intention from the very beginning has been to hire from the immediate surrounding communities. With this announcement, southern Queens should be very well represented at gaming and racing venue.
“The opening of this onsite employment center has flooded the area with great excitement and optimism,” said Speller. “Our hiring process is about building a hardworking, diverse and local Resorts World workforce, and with today’s opening of our onsite employment center, we’ve taken another important step in that direction.”
Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. said that while he believes the demand for jobs citywide exceeds the supply of job opportunities, he is grateful for the emphasis on hiring local workers directly from the surrounding communities.
He also said that he looks forward to meeting with Resorts World monthly to “address various issues in addition to jobs, which include public safety and traffic patterns.”
This employment center is another resource for the local residents to take advantage of, as Resorts World is already working with three employment services to identify locals in need of work. Those three services are NYC Business Solutions, Educational Opportunity Center and the Council for Airport Opportunity.

Resorts World officially launched its hiring process for permanent positions at the facility, announcing that candidates from the local community will be hired first. The company will hire a staff of 1,150 permanent workers – close to 50 percent increase from the original estimates.
“I’m looking for a chance to have a better career and job,” said Laura Obregdon, a South Ozone Park resident who applied for a clerk position. “This is the first opportunity I have seen in my neighborhood.”
