Police hunt for suspect in Flushing burglaries
By Connor Adams Sheets

Police were searching for a man wanted in a string of burglaries that have taken place recently in the Flushing area.

The burglar is targeting newer apartment buildings, sometimes visiting and casing them a day or two before committing the crimes, according to Crime Prevention Officer Anthony LoVerme.

“All entries to apartments have been through the apartment door, and cash, jewelry and electronics are being targeted,” LoVerme said in a statement.

LoVerme advises residents to keep their doors locked, not to buzz anyone they do not know into their buildings or to allow them to follow them in their buildings’ front doors. He also suggests residents call police if they see anyone who fits the photographs provided by the 109th Precinct or if they see someone suspicious in their hallways.

The burglar has hit buildings near 31st Avenue on Union Street, 144th Street and Roosevelt Avenue and 144th Street and Barclay Avenue, LoVerme said.

Several burglaries have also been reported at a building near 147th Street and 38th Avenue in Flushing, according to LoVerme. The burglar or burglars entered through a fire escape in the string of burglaries at the 147th Street building, and LoVerme advised residents to lock their windows and call police if they see anyone on their fire escape.
