90 confiscations of illegal fireworks in 106th precinct

This year, there were a lot fewer illegal “bombs bursting in air.”
Thanks to the 106th Precinct’s fireworks and noise enforcement throughout the command, over the July 4 weekend, there were more than 90 confiscations of illegal fireworks – and absolutely no injuries.
“It was definitely quieter this year than in years past,” said a police source, who noted that there were 70 confiscations last year. “I think the Department has done a good job of getting the word out that fireworks are illegal.”
From Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4, officers of the 106th executed confiscations and wrote summonses, largely for discharging firearms and disorderly conduct.
And on Monday, July 4, said the source, there were additional personnel to help keep the streets – and residents – safe.
“I didn’t feel there were as many fireworks as we’ve seen in the past, whether because of the economy or enforcement,” said the source. “We’re pretty happy the way it turned out.”

Bomb Squad technicians destroyed approximately 5,000 pounds of confiscated fireworks at the NYPD firing range in the Bronx.
