Queens Midtown Tunnel Tube Into Queens Closed This Weekend
The Queens Midtown Tunnel tube heading into Queens will be closed to traffic beginning at 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 30 through 3 a.m. on Monday, August 1.
The closure is for necessary roadway repair and repaving work.
Two-way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube for cars and NYCT buses only during this period. Commercial traffic must use an alternate route while two-way traffic operations are in effect.
Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use either the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge or Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel as an alternate.
The work will include removing old concrete and replacing it with fast-setting concrete, repairing potholes and repaving several areas inside the tube that were affected by harsh winter weather.
Kids Fun Day
The Catholic Charities Queens Community Centers are hosting “Kids Fun Day” on Thursday, August 4 and Friday, August 5.
The day is for families to enjoy themselves while receiving important information on safety and health.
The “Kids Fun Day” on August 4 will take place at the Queens South Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On August 5, the event will be at 23-40 Astoria Blvd between Crescent and 23rd St-along Newtown Ave from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Activities will include games, woodcraft projects, arts and crafts, karate and yoga, along with a special presentation by McGruff the Crime Dog, health screenings and much more.
Participants will receive free limited school supplies and other giveaways. This event is part of the Catholic Charities “Pathways to Self-Sufficiency” series, and is co-sponsored by Fidelis Care.
CB 2 public meeting
Community Board 2 has planned a public meeting of the City Services and Public Safety Committee at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3.
The meeting was called to consider applications for liquor licenses at Gypsy Rose at 42-50 21st Street in Long Island City and a proposed neighborhood restaurant on Vernon Boulevard.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for public comment from the community.
No. 7 line suspended this weekend
Service on the No. 7 line between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza will be suspended this weekend from 11:30 p.m., Friday, July 29 through 5 a.m., Monday, August 1.
Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service.
The work will include upgrading signal components, replacing wiring and signal circuits and a major clean-up of the roadbed to correct damage caused by water infiltration.
This is the third of three planned service suspensions on the No. 7 line this summer.

Gas prices continue to rise
Gas prices rose for the third consecutive week, reaching the highest price drivers have seen since the first week of June.
Prices increased over to $4.084 on Monday, July 25. A month ago, drivers were paying $4.02 at the pump.
Last year, gas was more than one dollar cheaper than it is now, coming in at $2.96.
The national average is $3.694, more than 10 cents than last month’s average.
