WOODHAVEN — A Woodhaven man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday after he entered a guilty plea for four unsolved sexual attacks he was arrested for when investigators matched a DNA sample he was required to give following a 2009 larceny conviction, according to the Queens district attorney’s office.
Mauricio Rosales, 33, of Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven, pleaded guilty in July to two counts of first-degree rape, first-degree attempted rape and first-degree sexual abuse — along with burglary and robbery charges — following his arrest in 2010 as the result of a DNA “cold hit,” the DA’s office said.
Rosales was required to submit a DNA sample to a state database when he pleaded guilty to petit larceny in November 2009 for stealing more than $3,000 from a former employee, the DA’s office said.
According to charges, on Oct. 20, 2000, Rosales entered the bedroom of a 12-year-old girl in Woodhaven through a back window and raped her before stealing several items and fleeing, the DA’s office said.
In the second incident, on July 17, 2003, he approached a 19-year-old woman while she was sitting in front of her Kew Gardens home, then pulled her at knifepoint into her driveway where he raped and robbed her, the DA’s office said.
On Aug. 7, 2003, he approached a 22-year-old woman in front of her Kew Gardens home, grabbed her by the throat and took her cash and cell phone and then dragged her to the bushes, where he removed her pants, according to the DA’s office. The woman struggled and Rosales fled, the DA’s office said.
In the final incident, Rosales held a knife to a 32-year old woman as she walked along the subway platform at Roosevelt Avenue and 52nd Street March 9, 2005, according to the DA’s office. He robbed her of cash and then forced her to sit as performed a sexual act, the DA’s office said.
