Douglaston Community Day for a cause

Studies show that more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined; a fact that Darryl Strawberry and wife Tracey have fought to bring into the public eye.
“The time we spend with parents witnessing their pain, frustration and fears of not being able to secure proper care and services for their loved ones is heartbreaking and has motivated us to action,” said Strawberry, a member of the Mets Hall of Fame and three-time World Series champion. “We are dedicated to making a difference.”
You, too, can make a difference by attending Douglaston Community Day on Saturday, August 13 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. where all proceeds will go to The Darryl Strawberry Foundation and their battle against autism as well as other local charities.
The growing guest list includes former Mets Doc Gooden, Kevin Mitchell, Barry Lyons and Terry Leach; former Giants punter Sean Landetta; 1050 ESPN Radio hosts Ryan Ruocco and Robin Lundberg and Family Feud announcer and former N’Sync member Joey Fatone.
Activities will include a dunk tank, batting cages, speed pitch, a bounce house, mini-basketball, water wars and a live DJ. Food will be provided by Strawberry’s Sports Grill who will be celebrating their one-year anniversary in the Douglaston community.
Current sponsors include the Douglaston Chamber of Commerce, Modell’s Sporting Goods, 1050 ESPN Radio, the New York Mets, Coors Light, Capital One, The Queens Courier, Star Subaru, The New York Daily News and more. Raffles and contests will be held every 30 minutes for prizes including Mets tickets, memorabilia and gift cards.
