No tolls on Rockaway bridges, Throgs Neck, Verrazano and Whitestone bridges

By 3 p.m. Mayor Bloomberg said the city should officially lift evacuation order.

1:23 p.m.
Mayor Bloomberg said that approximately 650 trees are down around the city.

12:58 p.m.
Marine Parkway and Cross Bay bridges are open.

12:04 p.m.
Governor Cuomo announced Tappan Zee Bridge is closed due to flooding. Lower level of George Washington Bridge and North Tube of the Holland Tunnel have reopened.

Con Ed is reporting over 25,000 Queens residents are without water.

9:25 a.m.
Marine Parkway and Cross Bay bridges and the north tube of the Holland Tunnel are closed.

9:59 p.m.
Councilmember Dan Halloran said his office will be staffed all night tonight and all day tomorrow. You can call the office at 718-631-6703 for help with storm-related issues and emergencies.

9:10 p.m.
Lower level of George Washington Bridge closed in both directions. Upper level remains open.

8:19 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Queens until 5 a.m. Sunday. Conditions are favorable for a tornado. The area can also see hail up to half an inch in diameter and dangerous lightning.

4:30 p.m.
Subway, bus and railroad services have completed their final runs. Stations are closed. Employees are moving trains and buses out of low-lying, flood-prone locations into safety, the MTA reported. Crews are securing facilities by deploying sand bags and other flood-mitigating buffers. Workers from the LIRR and Metro-North are securing or removing gates at 370 railroad crossings throughout the region.

4:24 p.m.
Residents living in a high rise may not be able to pump water if electricity goes out. Mayor recommends filling tub with water as precaution.

3:40 p.m.
Sanitation has been emptying litter baskets, turning them upside down and placing them near buildings to reduce the chance they get blown away during the storm. Bloomberg said that residents should not return the litter baskets to their regular location.

3:32 p.m.
Bloomberg announced that the MTA may not be back up and running until mid-Monday.

2:58 p.m.
Alternate side parking regulations and parking meter and muni-meter rules are suspended Saturday, August 27 Sunday, August 28 and Monday, August 29.

1:34 p.m.
Restrictions or closures at MTA Bridges and Tunnels are likely. MTA bridges will close if winds reach sustained speeds of 60 mph, but may closing sooner if high winds are coupled with other weather-related conditions including flooding.
East River bridges will close if winds reach 50 mph according to the DOT.

12:17 p.m.
Power outages may occur throughout city. Mayor is urging residents to charge cell phones now and stock on water, non-perishables, medicine and flashlights if possible.

Elevators in NYCHA buildings located in Zone A and in all Rockaway buildings begin shut down Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and will fully shut down by 6 p.m..

Noon
MTA shutdown is underway.

MTA buses and trains will be shutting down service shortly. At approximately noon buses and trains will be making their last runs. Residents who need to use public transportation to reach an evacuation center should make their way now.

LaGuardia and JFK airports are closed.

Today and tomorrow’s Mets games have been canceled.
