Police find newborn in shoebox

Police discovered a baby girl – umbilical cord still attached – in a shoebox on an Astoria street.

Early this morning, police responded to a 9-1-1 call of an abandoned baby at 21-62 28th Street. EMS also responded to the scene, where they treated the baby and took her to Elmhurst General Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

The parents of the newborn have not been located; a hospital canvass was initiated and the investigation is ongoing.
