Record rain floods borough

After record rainfall soaked Queens on Sunday, a Flash Flood Warning was issued for the borough through tonight.
An additional one to two inches of rain is expected on top of the almost eight that has already fallen.
The Office of Emergency Management reminded New Yorkers to exercise caution when traveling outside, especially when driving through moving water. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling, and a foot of water will float many vehicles.
A record 7.72 inches of rain fell at John F. Kennedy International Airport yesterday, more than an inch higher than the previous record. The record almost doubled New York City’s average rain fall in August – four inches.
Yesterday’s heavy rain and flooding caused delays on the subways, LIRR and the area airports.
