These Dragons roared across the finish lines

The water-bound competitors gave their all at the 21st annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival (HKDBF-NY) in New York at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on August 13 and 14. Day one saw action under a clear blue summer sky, while day two was marred by rain. But a few raindrops can’t stop a dragon and the festival concluded with DCH Racing crowned as 2011 champions.
HKDBF-NY, a multicultural celebration and sporting event, is the largest multicultural festival in New York and the largest festival of its kind in the nation. The festival keeps up the age old tradition of Dragon Boat Racing in colorful, custom made teak boats, which are virtual works of art gliding on water. The boats are piloted by up to 20 crewmen, including 18 paddlers, a drummer and steers person.
Congratulations to all of the winners – you made your dragons proud.
