Nick Cannon hugs at NYHQ pediatric ward

New York Hospital Queens is all that.

That’s because the hospital received a surprise visit from celebrity Nick Cannon last week. The host of “America’s Got Talent” best known for his role in the film “Drumline,” visited some lucky kids in the hospital’s pediatric ward and brightened up their day with toys.

On August 19, Cannon attempted to break the world record for the most hugs in one hour at Citifield. Though he didn’t surpass the record, Cannon managed to get 1,679 hugs in that time span. For every hug he received, the company WowWee that makes a brand of toy instruments called “PaperJamz,” donated one toy.

“We were trying to spread the love by breaking the hugging world record,” Cannon said.

The “All That” star and his entourage appeared at the hospital with a cart full of “Paper Jamz” toys, and New York Mets inspired t-shirts from 92.3 FM. Cannon also hosts a show on the radio station.

Along with Mr. Met, the duo traveled from room to room and surprised kids with the mock guitars. Cannon signed autographs while Mr. Met entertained the crowd and posed for pictures.

One of the lucky kids managed to stay long enough to meet Cannon on his last day in the hospital.

“I’m not going home until I get to meet Nick Cannon,” said Christopher Davis, 16, from Flushing. Davis, an aspiring actor, said he watched Cannon on the Nickelodeon show, “All That,” when he was younger.

When Davis finally met Cannon, he shyly posed for photographs amidst a crowd of flashing cameras and music blaring from one of the toy guitars.

Cannon and Mr. Met made their rounds around the hospital and posed for photographs with hospital staff. They went down to the hospital’s lobby and were swarmed by parents and their children. Cannon signed more autographs and Mr. Met consoled the crying toddlers that were scared of him.

In the end, it was all for a good cause, the celebrity said.

“I can actually make the kids smile,” Cannon said. “That’s probably the best feeling in the world.”
