Driver dies in Rich Hill after car slams into tree

RICHMOND HILL — A motorist was killed early Sunday morning after crashing into a tree at a high rate of speed at the corner of Van Wyck Expressway State Road West and 91st Avenue, police said.

The driver, who is unknown, was driving a BMW sedan and the car burst into flames on impact, police said. A witness reported seeing the driver lose control while leaving the expressway, police said.

FDNY responded as well as EMS, who pronounced the driver dead on arrival, police said.
