KEW GARDENS — Police have arrested 21 people from Queens in connection with a citywide sting in which individuals purchased Apple iPhone4s and iPad2s they believed to be stolen from undercover officers.
The NYPD charged 141 individuals boroughwide in the sting.
“This was a two-prong approach to apprehend both thieves and receivers of stolen property,” Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said in a statement. “Suspects at both ends of the equation are learning the hard way that ‘victims’ and ‘sellers’ may in fact be undercover police officers.”
NYPD undercover officers conducted these sales in commercial establishments and on some street corners.
Officers made six arrests in Elmhurst, three in Woodside, three in Corona, two in Far Rockaway, two in Ozone Park, two in Flushing, two in Jackson Heights and one in Astoria, NYPD said. They were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
