The cover story about Services Now for Adult Persons expanding transportation to northeast Queens (“CB 11 approves Little League bleachers plan,” Bayside Times, Nov. 10-16) only took into account one small aspect of the real story, which is that the SNAP of Eastern Queens Senior Center was awarded the contract to become one of eight innovative senior centers in the city.
What this means for eastern Queens, in addition to increased access to transportation, is a new and wide array of programs and services focusing on wellness and healthy aging. SNAP will have additional staff and they will be able to reach out to those residents of Community Boards 11 and 13 who have not previously attended a center.
There is excitement and great expectations around this new opportunity for the community to be part of this cutting-edge center of tomorrow.
