Break- In Beating

He’s Cuffed For Assaulting Women

A Ridgewood man was collared by police moments after he allegedly broke into a Glendale apartment last Wednesday morning, Jan. 11, and assaulted two women inside, law enforcement sources said.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Marcello Scurto of 60th Street.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the trouble began at around 11:10 a.m. last Wednesday at an apartment house on 67th Street near Central Avenue.

Reportedly, Scurto arrived at the location, kicked down the door of the building’s lobby and entered the one of the female victim’s first-floor apartment. The motive for the incident was not disclosed.

Once inside, authorities said, Scurto allegedly knocked the woman to the ground and began striking her multiple times about her body with an unknown object. The victim suffered various lacerations, bruises and swelling to her eyes and elbows.

Law enforcement sources noted that the woman’s 12-year-old son was inside the residence at the time of the incident; he was not injured.

During the attack, according to the criminal complaint, another woman tried to come to the victim’s aid. As a result, Scurto struck the second woman in the face, causing her to fall head-first over a couch.

The second woman suffered a concussion and other minor injuries, law enforcement sources said.

Scurto reportedly removed the first victim’s cell phone and fled from the scene.

The incident was reported to police, and officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the scene.

Authorities said the suspect was stopped a short time later and questioned by officers. During a search, they reportedly recovered from Scurto’s possession a bag of marijuana and a cigarette containing the drug.

Scurto was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree assault, criminal mischief, petit larceny, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Court records noted that he was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court last Friday, Jan. 13, before Judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt, who ordered him held on $50,000 bail.
