Cops Talk Safety at 112th Council Meet

Crime prevention was the focus of the 112th Precinct Community Council’s monthly meeting last Wednesday, Jan. 18, as residents came to the Forest Hills stationhouse for a safety seminar. As noted, P.O. Zina Vailes of the precinct’s Crime Prevention Unit offered attendees a variety of tips on how they can stay safe at home and while in public. She also informed guests that they can contact the Crime Prevention Unit for a free home security survey. Community Council President Heidi Harrison Chain also warned those in attendance about a popular scam in the area in which individuals inform drivers that smoke is coming out of their vehicle and offer to make repairs for a fee. Deputy Inspector Christopher Tamola, the precinct’s commanding officer, advised residents not to accept any offers on the street and to report such scams to 911 immediately. Shown at the session are (from left to right) P.O. Gigi Redzematovic of the 112th Precinct Community Affairs Unit; Community Council Vice President Gail Gordon; Council President Chain; P.O.
