Estranged Husband Nabbed For Murder

With her daughter watching, a Richmond Hill woman was murdered by her husband during an apparent domestic dispute at her residence early on Sunday morning, Jan. 15, according to police.

Reportedly, 32-year-old Diana Sharma’s throat was fatally cut by her estranged husband, identified by police as 37-year-old Oscar Novakovsky, during an argument inside Sharma’s 121st Street home at around 12:40 a.m.

Novakovsky, who resides on 121st Street in Richmond Hill, was taken into custody by police officers during a search of the surrounding area and later booked on charges of murder, weapons possession and endangering the welfare of a child.

Law enforcement sources said that Novakovsky attacked Sharma in her residence on 117th Street between 101st and 103rd avenues. Reportedly, the suspect stabbed her in the chest and neck before fleeing.

According to published reports, the victim had an valid order of protection against Novakovsky. Sharma’s three children were inside the residence at the time of the murder.

Officers from the 102nd Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the location.

Following questioning, Novakovsky was charged with seconddegree murder, aggravated contempt, criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
