Upset Win Bolsters Mls Playoff Hopes

Boys Score Victory Over Our Saviour

Martin Luther School’s (MLS) Cougars basketball teams is making a late push at a playoff spot after upsetting the second-ranked Our Saviour Lutheran in PSAA action.

Lead by senior forward Jean Paul Arias’ 32 points and nine rebounds, the Cougars took a 24-12 lead in the first quarter. Our Savior chipped away at the lead and in the fourth quarter MLS only lead by four.

The Cougars played relentless defense stealing the ball 5 times with 4 minutes left in the game. Guards Austin Rothman (nine points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals), Bryan Fonseca (nine points and four assists) and Patrick Kelly (11 points, nine assists and six rebounds) all made three-point shots during those four minutes and MLS took a sevenpoint lead late in the game.

Forward Akran Bahabishi scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter and pulled down nine rebounds to help cement the upset victory.

“This was an important win for the team as our goal is to make the PSAA playoffs” stated Coach John Della Marco. With the victory, MLS improved its PSAArecord to 2-4 and its overall record to 4-11.
