‘Miracle’ cop ‘shooter’ arraigned, held without bail
In a courtroom crowded with scores of cops, the thug accused of shooting a Brooklyn police officer in the head was charged today with attempted murder after a prosecutor called the shooting “an evil act by an evil man.” Luis Ortiz was arraigned in Brooklyn on a charge of attempted murder of a police officer, accused of shooting Officer Kevin Brennan on Tuesday night. Brennan remains at Bellevue Hospital. He is expected to recover. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has said surveillance video shows Brennan in a headlock, then being shot in an alcove and lying motionless as Ortiz fled. Gruesome Major Deegan crash kills driver and passenger; three other occupants critically injured
An out-of-control driver plowed into a concrete pillar on the Major Deegan Expressway, killing his passenger and himself and critically injuring three other occupants, police said. The motorist, in a Chrysler Charger, was spotted driving erratically on the north bound lane of the Deegan Expressway prior to the gruesome crash which occured near the Cross Bronx Expressway at 12:25 a.m., cops said. Jamaica fire kills one
A deadly fire broke out late Wednesday night leaving one dead in Jamaica. The blaze at a residence on 120th Avenue left a 69-year-old woman dead. The woman was found after fire fighters responding to the fire extinguished the flames. EMS pronounced the woman dead on the scene. Read More: Queens Courier
TSA screener arrested for swiping $5K from passenger
A TSA screener was busted for allegedly stealing $5,000 from a passenger who was going through a security checkpoint, the latest in a string of snafus by the federal agency at the city’s three airports, authorities said. Alexandra Schmid, 31, of Brooklyn, was arrested after she was caught on surveillance cameras at Terminal 4 stealing the money from a Bangladeshi national, Port Authority police said. The passenger had placed his jacket on the belt so it could be scanned. After it was scanned, the passenger complained that his money was missing. Read More: New York Post

From Kozlowski, he got stock tips. From Hevesi, he heard about the perennial impasse in Albany.
