Resident Burned In E. Elmhurst Blaze

Two people were injured after a one-alarm fire broke out inside a home in East Elmhurst early on Sunday morning, Feb. 19, Fire Department sources said. Reportedly, the inferno ignited at around 3:15 a.m. in the basement of the residence located in the vicinity of 73rd Street and 21st Avenue. Responding to the scene (in the order of their arrival) were members of Engine companies 263, 312, 307, 316 and 262; Ladder companies 117, 154, 163 and 136; Squad Co. 288; Rescue 4 and Battalions 49 and 46-under the direction of Division 14-along with the 114th Precinct and EMS units. One of the victims was taken by paramedics to the Weill-Cornell Burn Center in Manhattan after suffering serious burns; the other victim was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Two hose lines were used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control, according to Fire Department sources.
