A problematic intersection in Bayside was brought to light this week when City Councilman Dan Halloran (R-Whitestone) announced the lowering of a traffic signal near 35th Avenue and the Clearview Expressway.
“This intersection is safer today, now that the arrow is somewhere people can actually see it,” Halloran said in a statement.
The light was recently installed with help from Community Board 11, but Halloran said it was initially put up too high for drivers to notice.
CB 11 Chairman Jerry Iannece said he had expected more from the city Department of Transportation, adding that the agency has a tendency to act without seeking input from residents.
“They should have known before putting it up,” Iannece said. “I’m glad the Council member caught it, but I’m not surprised.”
Halloran said the DOT was quick to respond to his request to lower the light.
“This is how government should work,” Halloran said.
