Posing as a cop to confront a resident at a Rego Park home proved costly for a Long Island man who was busted by real police officers on Sunday night, Mar. 18, it was reported.
Law enforcement sources said the suspect, 41-year-old Boris Volfman of Woodmere, knocked on the door of an apartment located on Woodhaven Boulevard between 62nd Drive and Dry Harbor Road at around 6:30 p.m.
According to police, Volfman allegedly identified himself to the resident through the door that he was a police officer.
When the male resident opened the door, it was reported, Volfman engaged in an argument with him. Police sources said the alleged imposter and the resident were not known to each other.
The resident then contacted 911, and officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the location.
Following questioning, Police Officers Cadavid and Day of the 104th Precinct took Volfman into custody and charged him with first-degree criminal impersonation, law enforcement sources said.
Court records noted that Volfman was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Monday, Mar. 19, before Judge Gene Lopez and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on Apr. 17.
