Flordia man convicted after pack heat in luggage

LAGUARDIA AIRPORT — A Florida man was charged with criminal possession of a weapon Feb. 21 after attempting to bring a semi-automatic handgun onto a flight leaving LaGuardia Airport, according to documents from the Queens district attorney’s office.

Victor Jones, 27, told investigators he was visiting his mother in Brooklyn when they cuffed the Lauderhill, Fla., resident, whose luggage contained a .45-caliber pistol in a lock box, the DA said.

At about 4:30 p.m., Jones presented a suitcase to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration before proceeding to the gate of his flight.

The suitcase set off weapons alarms and TSA agents recovered the gun along with nine rounds stuffed in a sock, which Jones admitted was his, the DA said.

Jones could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted, the DA said.
