Midville Man Injured In House Fire

Firefighters rescued a man and a cat who were overcome by smoke after a blaze broke out inside the basement of a Middle Village home last Saturday afternoon, Mar. 24, it was reported. According to FDNY sources, the one-alarm fire started at around 2:45 p.m. along 78th Street near Eliot Avenue. Among the units that responded to the scene (in the order of their arrival) were members of Squad companies 288 and 41; Engine companies 319, 287 and 286; Ladder companies 136, 140 and 138; Rescue 4 and Battalions 46 and 45-under the direction of Division 14- along with the 104th Precinct and EMS units. Both the man and cat were treated for what was described as minor smoke inhalation. One hose line was used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control, it was reported.
