Hundreds of candidates for entry into the Roman Catholic Church were welcomed by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, leader of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, during Rite of Election ceremonies held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village. As noted, over 400 prospective Catholics took part in two Rite of Election ceremonies held on Sunday, during which the bishop blessed each candidate as they began their preparation for baptism. Most of the baptisms are scheduled to take place during Easter vigils celebrated by churches across the diocese on Saturday, Apr. 7, the night before Easter Sunday. Bishop DiMarzio (standing at center, holding staff) is shown reading a prayer. Other members of the diocese participating in the ceremony were Msgr. Paul Sanchez and Fr. James Grimaldi, diocesan vicars, and Sr. Alice Michael.
