Street Cleaning Suspensions
Alternate-side parking rules will be suspended next Thursday, Apr. 5, through Saturday, Apr. 7, in observance of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Passover, respectively. Meter regulations, however, will remain in effect citywide each day.
Road Work
Because of ongoing construction work at several locations throughout Queens and Brooklyn, the New York City Department of Transportation has announced numerous street closures in local neighborhoods for the upcoming week.
The announced diversions are current as of Wednesday, Mar. 28. The DOT may shut down other roads should the need for emergency repairs arise.
Streets and highways that are affected by closures during this week include the following:
Street Resurfacing In B’wick., R’wood.
Weather permitting, DOT crews will repave Harman Street between Bushwick and Wyckoff avenues in Bushwick and Ridgewood, Brooklyn on Thursday, Mar. 29; and Madison Street between Broadway and Ridgewood Place in Bushwick and Ridge- wood, Brooklyn on Thursday, Mar. 29, and Friday, Mar. 30.
Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and seek alternate routes while street resurfacing takes place.
BQE Lane Closures For Bridge Paintjob
One lane in each direction of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway may be closed below the Woodside Avenue/ 69th Street overpass in Woodside on weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. until May. The DOT is conducting bridge painting at the location.
Road Work Disrupts Union Tpke. In F.H.
One lane of traffic will be closed in each direction on Union Turnpike between Park Lane and Greenway North in Forest Hills on weekdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. as the DOT conducts bridge repairs.
Regular Lifts Lead To Hodges Br. Delays
Multiple daily bridge lifts at the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will continue through mid-April as the U.S. Army Cors of Engineers continues its marsh islands restoration project in Jamaica Bay.
The lifts, which will take place around the clock, require periodic closure of the span to traffic. It takes approximately 15 minutes to raise and lower the bridge. Motorists are advised to use the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge as an alternate.
Kew Gdns. Project Affects Van Wyck
One lane in each direction of the Van Wyck Expressway at the Kew Gardens interchange between Grand Central Parkway and 86th Avenue may be closed on weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., on weeknights from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., on Saturdays from 12:01 until 6 a.m. and on Sundays from 12:01 until 10 a.m.
Two lanes in each direction may be closed on early weekday mornings from 1 to 5 a.m., on Saturday mornings from 1 to 5 a.m. (6 a.m. northbound) and Sunday mornings from 1 to 6 a.m. (7 a.m. northbound).
These lane closures are necessary in order to facilitate roadway reconstruction by the New York State Department of Transportation. The project is scheduled to continue through March.
Lane Closures On Grand Central Pkwy.
One lane of the Grand Central Parkway will be closed in either direction under the 37th Street overpass on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Closures will also occur on weekends from 11 p.m. Fridays until 6 a.m. Saturdays and on Sundays from 12:01 to 11 a.m.
Additionally, one lane in each direction of the Grand Central Parkway will be closed between 82nd and 111th streets on weekdays from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m., on Saturdays from 1 to 6 a.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 9 a.m. as the DOT conducts maintenance work.
Furthermore, one lane in each direction will be closed on the 44th Street overpass above the Grand Central Parkway in Astoria through February as the DOT conducts bridge repair work.
It was also noted that one lane in each direction of the Grand Central Parkway may be closed under the United Nations Avenue Bridges (between Roosevelt Avenue and the Long Island Expressway) weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closures wll also take place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and from 10 p.m. Saturdays until 3 p.m. Sundays.
Belt Pkwy. Bridge Work Continues
Due to ongoing reconstruction, one lane in each direction of the Belt Parkway may be closed over the Fresh Creek Basin and Paerdegat Basin bridges between Flatbush Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue on weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Up to two lanes may be closed in either direction over the same bridges during overnight hours from 1 to 5 a.m.
