Two men arrested in Home Depot robberies: Cops

FLUSHING — Police foiled two alleged thieves at Home Depots in the area last month, saving the company nearly $3,500, according to the NYPD.

The first theft occurred Feb. 15, at 130-35 Avery Ave., police said.

Juan Torries, 19, allegedly loaded about $2,000 worth of tools onto a cart and attempted to stroll out of the store without paying, police said.

Then on Feb. 27, another man tried the same thing, at 124-04 31st Ave., according to the NYPD.

At about 2:45 p.m., Paul Jones, 55, allegedly piled $1,400 worth of tools onto a cart and began to walk out the door, police said.

Both Torries and Jones, who police said has numerous prior arrests dating back to the early 1980s, were charged with grand larceny, which is the theft of property over $1,000, according to the NYPD.
