ELMHURST — A Woodside woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday for throwing her baby in the trash can of an Elmhurst Hospital restroom, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
Dawa Lama, 24, admitted to putting the infant girl, Mingmar Gurung, in a wastebasket and leaving in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Lenora Gerald, the DA said.
Lama had gone to the Hospital May 10 for prenatal care, but was overcome with pain and went to the bathroom, the DA said. After she had the baby, Lama left the hospital, the DA said. She was arrested later that day, the DA said.
Mingmar ended up being put on life support and dying seven days later, the DA said.
Gerald plans to sentence Lama to 10 years in prison, the DA said.
