Christians Remember Good Friday on Streets

To mark the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, faithful residents took to the streets across Brooklyn and Queens last Good Friday, Apr. 6, for a number of prayerful processions. Parishes in Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth and Bushwick organized the marches and/or Stations of the Cross processions around their respective communities. As shown in the top and left photos, members of parishes and Catholic organizations from Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth and Middle Village participated in a procession from St. Pancras Church in Glendale to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Ridgewood. This year’s walk was led by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, head of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens. He is pictured at left (at center), flanked by Msgr. Steven Aguggia of St. Margaret Church (second from left), Msgr. Gregory Wielunski of St. Pancras Church (second from right) and Tony Mulé (at right) of the Associazione Culturale Italiana di New York, one of the procession’s co-sponsors.

Bearing their own crosses, members of St. Martin of Tours Church in Bushwick began their Good Friday procession from their house of worship at the corner of Knickerbocker Avenue and Weirfield Street.
