Suspects Snatched For Ridgewood Mugging
Detectives collared last week a pair of men who allegedly beat up a male victim and stole his iPhone at a Ridgewood intersection during a mugging last month, according to police.
The suspects were identified by law enforcement sources as Gustavo A. Taveras Jr., 24, of Menahan Street in Bushwick and Jesus Munez, 42, of Ada Drive in Staten Island.
According to information pro vided by the Queens District Attor ney’s office, the incident occurred at 5:50 p.m. on Mar. 25, at the corner of Palmetto Street and Cypress Avenue.
Reportedly, the male victim was approached by Taveras Jr. and Munez, who then began punching and kicking him about the body. Dur ing the attack, police said, the victim sustained a broken nose and other minor injuries.
As the assault took place, the criminal complaint noted, the vic tim’s iPhone fell out of his pocket to the ground. One of the suspects re portedly grabbed the device and then fled with the other perpetrator in an unknown direction.
Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the scene. The victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
Following an investigation conducted by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad, Munez was taken into custody last Monday, Apr. 2, while Taveras Jr. was picked up by police two days later on Wednesday, Apr. 4.
Munez was charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and third-degree assault. He was arraigned last Tuesday, Apr. 3, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge John Zoll, who released him on his own recognizance.
Taveras Jr. was booked on a count of second-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree assault, a count of third-degree assault and harassment. He was arraigned last Thursday, Apr. 5, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Zoll, who ordered him held on $2,500 bail.
Both suspects are scheduled to return to court on Apr. 16.
