Ashton Tourney In Woodside Fri.-Sat.
The 10th annual Tommy Ashton Foundation basketball tournament will take place beginning tomorrow night, Friday, Apr. 13, and conclude the following evening at St. Sebastian’s Parish Center in Woodside.
The men’s 40 and over tournament will be held on Friday night at 7 p.m., while the tournaments for men 21 years of age and older and women 18 years of age and older will be held on Saturday morning, Apr. 14, beginning at 9 a.m.
The double-elimination tournaments feature teams of three to five players. The annual competition is a major fund-raiser for the Thomas Ashton Foundation, a non-profit organization formed in honor of a resident of the Big Six apartment complex in Woodside who was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
For this year’s tournament, the organizers have pledged to donate all proceeds to No Greater Sacrifice, a charity dedicated to the children of servicemen and women who were seriously wounded or killed in combat.
After the tournament, players are invited to take part in an after party to be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday night at Shelley’s Tavern, located at 58-15 Woodside Ave. in Woodside. Admission will be charged.
