Robbery Suspect Pinched For R’Wood Shooting

Out on bail and awaiting trial for his alleged role in a mugging in Ridgewood last July, an 18-year-old man was collared by police last Wednesday, May 9, for allegedly shooting a 15-year-old male on a neighborhood street last month, police sources reported.

Law enforcement sources identified the perpetrator as Geremia Ramirez of Madison Street, who was previously arrested by the 104th Precinct on the morning of July 3, 2011 for allegedly helping another suspect beat up and rob a man who had just parked his vehicle at a Ridgewood garage.

Ramirez was booked last Wednesday for allegedly opening fire on the teenage victim in a shooting that took place at around 12:20 a.m. on the morning of Apr. 22 at the corner of Wyckoff Avenue and Weirfield Street, authorities said.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the 15-year-old victim was at a party in a nearby building when a fight broke out.

As the victim attempted to exit through the front door, law enforcement sources said, he was met by Ramirez, who allegedly stood in the doorway while holding a firearm in his left hand.

Ramirez reportedly made a threat to the victim, who then turned around and exited the premises through a rear location. Once outside, law enforcement sources said, the victim discovered that several of his friends were being assaulted by a group of unidentified, unapprehended suspects.

When the victim went to aid his friends, the criminal complaint noted, a gunshot was fired and struck the left side of his abdomen. Authorities said the victim walked a few more steps before collapsing.

Members of the 104th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Through an investigation conducted by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad, Ramirez was identified as a suspect and, following question, was booked last Wednesday on charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, prosecutors said.

According to court records, Ramirez was arraigned last Friday, May 11, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Stephanie Zaro, who ordered him held on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on May 30.

As previously reported, Ramirez is waiting to be tried on second-degree robbery charges for the July 3, 2011 mugging, which took place at around 2 a.m. in front of a home on Bleecker Street between Seneca and Onderdonk avenues.

Reportedly, Ramirez and a second suspect-identified as Awein Rodriguez, then 19, of Jefferson Avenue in Bushwick-approached the male victim from behind just as he exited a nearby garage.

Law enforcement sources said the duo then allegedly punched the man in the back of the head repeatedly until he fell to the ground. Once the man was down on the pavement, according to the criminal complaint, the two suspects continued their assault, kicking him about the face and stomach.

Seconds later, police said, Ramirez and Rodriguez searched through the man’s pockets, removing the keys to his vehicle as well as his cell phone and wallet containing credit cards and cash. After obtaining the property, it was reported, the pair fled from the scene on foot.

The incident was reported to police and officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the scene. The victim suffered minor injuries.

During a search by police, Ramirez and Rodriguez were apprehended nearly 30 minutes after the mugging. Rodriguez, who remains incarcerated on $25,000 bail, is also awaiting trial, court records noted.
