Second-story Elmhurst House Fire Sends Two to Hospital

Flames ripped through the second-story of an Elmhurst home during a one-alarm fire on Monday, May 28, which left two people injured, Fire Department sources said. Reportedly, the blaze ignited at around 9:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Haspel Street and 52nd Avenue. Responding to the scene (in the order of their arrival) were members of Engine companies 287, 289 and 292; Squad companies 288 and 270; Ladder companies 136, 138 and 154; Rescue 4 and Battalions 46 and 45-under the direction of Division 14-along with the 110th Precinct and EMS units. The injured victims were brought by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, FDNY sources said. Two hose lines were reportedly used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
