St. Pancras Juniors Take Cyo Hoops Title

Outlast Our Lady Of Lourdes To Win Championship

The St. Pancras Junior Boys’ Basketball Team won the CYO Diocesan Championship for the 2011-12 season, defeating Our Lady of Lourdes at Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, 56-47.

The St. Pancras Junior Boys’ Basketball team consists of (front row, left to right) James Flynn, Mike Borgia, Nico Ebert, Timmy Bellington, (middle row) Coach Danny Bellington, Chucky Myers, Robby Schoemig, Brett Buser, Sean Smaldone, (top row) Ricky Wahmann and Andrew Winer.

Both teams were undefeated going into the game.

Lourdes came out strong and dashed to a 10-2 lead right away, but St. Pancras never lost their composure and eventually caught up. The game was tied 22-22 at halftime, but St. Pancras opened up a six-point lead throughout the second half.

Lourdes came back in the fourth quarter but St. Pancras made key baskets and stops to pull away for the win.

The Glendale team also captured first place in this year’s St. Thomas Apostle Frankie Carapolo Tournament. Many have played together since the third grade.
