an Army Strong Birthday

Celebrating 237 Years Of Being All It Can Be In F.H.

In recognition of the 237th birthday of the United States Army, Rep. Bob Turner hosted a celebration at American Legion Post 1424 in Forest Hills to mark the anniversary and honor the military branch.

Members of the U.S. Army Garrison in Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn and the 10th Mountain Division helped Rep. Bob Turner celebrate the 237th anniversary of the formation of the U.S. Army with a party at the American Legion Continental Post 1424 in Forest Hills last Tuesday, June 12.

“The United States Army has a rich history cultivated over the nearly 2 1/2 centuries it has served to defend our soil,” Turner said. “As the first of our military branches, the Army and those who wear our nation’s uniform, continue, as they always have, to serve with the utmost honor. Putting together a celebration for our local soldiers here in the Ninth Congressional District is a small token of our nation’s deep appreciation. The history of accomplishments of the United States Army is truly worth celebrating.”

Lt. Col Mike Kirkpatrick from the Fort Hamilton U.S. Army Garrison in Brooklyn and the Army’s 10th Mountain Division were in attendance to help Congressman Turner mark the occasion.

“Whether they’re on duty, at their jobs, or at church or in the supermarket, our Soldiers have the ability to connect to every segment of American society through their stories. We must make every effort to connect with America. We must tell the Army Story. Every Soldier who has ever served in the Army has an Army story. Every Army Civilian and every member of every Army Family has an Army story. Everyone whose life has been touched by Soldier, whose life is better because of a Soldier has an Army story. And this story must be told,” U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton Commander Colonel Michael Gould said about the event.
