Freedom and fireworks lovers will be able to see an Independence Day show a little early this year when Astoria holds its 30th festival over the East River Monday, June 25.

The celebration, hosted as always by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, will run from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Astoria Park, which is along Shore Boulevard and 19th Street between Ditmars Boulevard and Hoyt Avenue.

Festivities begin with music, which will be played by Joe Battaglia and the New York Big Band, as well as United We Sing. Long Island-based Grucci Fireworks will be putting on the main event.

The Astoria Independence Day Celebration is held early to be the first July 4 celebration and draw residents who are going away from the city for the holiday or going to Macy’s’ fireworks over the Hudson River.

Central Astoria’s Independence Day event kicks off its Waterfront Concert Series, held every Thursday at Astoria Park at 7:30 p.m.
