Injured In Ridgewood Domestic Dispute
An apparent domestic dispute inside a Ridgewood apartment early on Sunday morning, June 24, turned violent when a 25-year-old woman allegedly hurled a chair during the argument that wound up striking and injuring a one-yearold boy, law enforcement sources said.
The infant was treated at a local hospital after suffering a laceration to the left side of his head, authorities stated.
Police said the suspect who threw the chair, identified as 25-year-old Jacqueline Alvarez of North Portland Avenue in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, was charged by 104th Precinct officers on multiple counts of assault stemming from the incident.
Reportedly, the trouble began at around 1 a.m. Sunday morning, when Alvarez allegedly became involved in an argument with her former boyfriend inside his residence on Madison Street between Cypress and Seneca avenues. At that time, a woman was at the scene and holding the former boyfriend’s one-year-old son.
According to the criminal complaint provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Alvarez allegedly picked up a chair and hurled it at the woman, striking both her and the child in the head.
Law enforcement sources said that Alvarez then allegedly grabbed an iron and threw it at her former boyfriend, striking him in the foot, then slapped and scratched him across the body.
Members of the 104th Precinct were called and responded to the scene. The injured infant was brought to a local hospital for treatment of a cut to his head, which required a staple to close. The woman who held him was also treated for a laceration behind her left ear.
Alvarez was taken into custody by P.O. Kevin McElligott of the 104th Precinct and charged with three counts of second-degree assault as well as two counts each of harassment and criminal possession of a weapon as well as singular counts of third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Court records noted that the suspect was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court later on Sunday before Judge Suzanne Melendez, who ordered her held on $5,000 bail. Alvarez is scheduled to return to court tomorrow, Friday, June 29.
