Young Scholars Awarded by Glendale Kiwanis

Continuing an annual tradition of supporting the efforts of young students, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale handed out thousands of dollars in scholarships to incoming college and high school students during their scholarship luncheon last Thursday, June 14, at Bel Mondo Restaurant in Middle Village. As noted, the honorees were welcomed to the event by Kiwanis Club President Ken Dunny (back row, fifth from left) as well as President-elect Len Licata (back row, at far left), who also served as chairman of the scholarship event. The scholarship winners were Stephanie Abuso of St. Francis Preparatory School, Katherine Kurre of The Mary Louis Academy, Augustin John Lianzo of Aviation High School and Vincent Martello of Xavier High School, who received the Charlie Scheer Memorial Awards; Scott Abuso of Xavier High School and Olivia McNamee of I.S. 227, who won the Vito Maranzano Community Service Awards; Brendan Dooley and Kathleen Marinaro of Sacred Heart School, Matthew Schneider of Notre Dame Catholic Academy of Ridgewood and Nicholas Wunsch of St. Margaret School, each winners of Glendale Memorial Scholarship Awards; Melissa Betts of Christ the King High School and Stephanie Ramirez of Grover Cleveland High School, winners of the Leo and Kate Schmidt Key Club Awards; Steven Hansen of Sacred Heart School, who earned the Marco Vessio Good Christian Award; Peter Maxham of Sacred Heart School, who received the Frederick T. ‘Bud’ Haller Music Award; and Kaitlyn Fitzgerald of Forest Hills High School, Marissa Jonke of The Mary Louis Academy, Erik Petschauer of Archbishop Molloy High school and Jeffrey Underhill of Barnstable High School, winners of the Glendale Kiwanis Scholastic Achievement awards.
