Teen Gravely Wounded In Bushwick

A 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head on a Bushwick street last month succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, July 10, according to police.

Christopher Akeal of Park Place in Crown Heights died at Brookdale University Hospital; he had been previously declared brain dead and was on life support.

Law enforcement sources said Akeal was gunned down by an unidentified gunman at the corner of Cornelia Street and Evergreen Avenue at around 11 p.m. on the night of June 27.

According to published reports, Akeal was walking with a group of friends when they were approached by two suspects.

After a brief encounter, the victim and his friends reportedly fled from the area.

As they did so, as reported in The Wall Street Journal, one of the suspects fired shots at them, one of which struck Akeal in the head.

Members of the 83rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene.

The 83rd Precinct Detective Squad is conducting an ongoing investigation, police said.
