Kathryn M. “Kit” Caplan, a former Douglaston resident, died in West Orange, N.J., July 22, 2012. She was 85.
She was born Jan. 27, 1927, in New York City to the late Beatrice Abrahams and Sandor S. Klein. On Aug. 24, 1948, she married Julian W. Caplan in Washington, D.C. They were married for almost 64 years, the past 50 of which they lived in Douglaston, Manhattan, Montclair, N.J., and West Orange.
Caplan graduated from Queens College in May 1977 at 50. After her graduation, she was employed as a coordinator of research and development at the Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults in Queens and worked in other health care and community activist roles.
She is survived by her husband, four children and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at noon at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, at 67 Church St., in Montclair.
