A man was seriously injured after a fire broke out inside a junkyard in Willets Point last Friday afternoon, Aug. 31, FDNY sources said. Reportedly, the one-alarm inferno ignited at 12:35 p.m. in the yard located on 126th Street near 39th Avenue. Among the units that responded to the scene (listed in numerical order) were Engine companies 273, 274, 289, 316 and 324; Ladder companies 129, 130, 138 and 152; Squad Co. 288; Rescue 4 and Battalions 46 and 52-under the direction of Division 14-along with the 110th Precinct and EMS units. The injured man was brought to the Cornell Burn Unit for treatment of burns over 90 percent of his body, FDNY sources said. Three hose lines and two tower ladders were used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control, an FDNY source said.
