Heavy winds and thunderstorms that blew through Queens last Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 18, caused damage to trees in neighborhoods around the Times Newsweekly coverage area. Firefighters and police personnel responded to calls of fallen tree limbs and wires, as well as uprooted trees. As shown in the left photo, a large limb snapped off a tree located in the vicinity of 92nd Street and 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights. Part of 60th Street near Broadway in Woodside was blocked by part of a tree that fell during the storm, as shown in the right photo. No injuries were reported in either incident.
